About McKenzie
Storyteller / Artist / Explorer
In this non-linear, uncertain experience that we call life, McKenzie has told a kaleidoscope of stories on a variety of platforms that have evolved over the last decade. After studying film at the University of Florida while playing soccer, she learned the ins and outs of global entertainment marketing at Nike, worked at one of the world’s top advertising agencies 72andSunny, assisted on a surf expedition in Iceland with world renowned adventure photographers, led an experiential marketing team for SONY brand activations with Pello agency, produced nationally-syndicated sports documentary programs for MSG Network and FOX Sports that won her 4 NY Emmy Awards, collaborated with top social media influencers creating community and content at Moment, and started a film production company Comfort Theory with two of her best friends. As Executive Producer and Co-Founder of Comfort Theory, McKenzie produced documentary series and a broadcast special for National Geographic and Nat Geo WILD in Costa Rica filming natural history content. She also spearheaded her dream project to hike the world’s newest thru hike in New Zealand. This project called for a cross-platform experience, upon which she rallied a crew and secured 13 top leading outdoor brands and 1 media partner to sponsor the 5-month journey told across social media, written blog posts, on-the-trail video experiences, and ultimately a documentary film for Outside TV on Amazon. After many more thrilling documentary projects with Comfort Theory and working as Field Producer on adventure documentary The River and the Wall, McKenzie felt the call for world exploration once more and took to the road to find her direction magnetically.
She spent four months walking from Mexico to Canada on the Pacific Crest Trail, lived full time out of her van and long term traveled through South America, Asia, Oceania, Europe and Africa. Along the way she solo bicycled the length of Vietnam, studied yoga from the masters in India, worked alongside nature on regenerative and sustainable farms in Malaysia and Australia, trekked amongst some of Earth’s highest mountains in the Himalayas, and, ultimately, re-connected with her innate calling to tell stories of awe, wonder, and universal inter-connectedness of all creatures through the lens of film and adventure.
McKenzie shares her tales in the hopes that they can inspire others to listen to what calls them from within, and dare to explore it. She believes deeply in solution-based storytelling and in our inter-existence with the natural world.
